Snakehead Fish Caught Near Lorton

On Wednesday, September 8, a Northern Snakehead Fish was caught in Little Hunting Creek, near Lorton, VA. This is the only type of Snakehead fish that can survive the winter conditions of the Potomac River.

These particular fish are aggressive and eat their prey whole. While they do not attack humans, and they are not taking over the ecosystem, as some feared a few years ago, they are continuing to spread and colonize throughout the lower region of the Potomac River. Snakeheads can be found in almost every creek; the Snakehead Fish are expected to have a record year.
