FCPS Announces Recommended Mathematics Textbooks Available for Community Review

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

 

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will make recommended mathematics textbooks—both digital and print texts;available for community review from Tuesday, October 18, through Wednesday, November 30, at the Leis Center in conference room A.

 New textbooks are being recommended for K-12 mathematics courses offered in FCPS.

Twenty-Four FCPS Students Named National Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists

Twenty-four students from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have been named 2012 National Achievement Scholarship program semifinalists in an academic competition for Black American high school students conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Applications Available for TJHSST

Applications for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST), the Governor’s Regional School for science and technology in Northern Virginia, are now available in all public middle schools in participating school districts and many private schools. At each middle school, a designated counselor has applications, brochures, and newsletters about the admissions process. If a student cannot obtain an application from a middle school or private school, or if the student is home schooled, he or she should call the Admissions Office, at 571-423-3770, for an application.

FCPS to Host College Fair, College Night October 16 and 17

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will host its 2011 College Fair on Sunday, October 16, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Fair Oaks Mall and College Night on Monday, October 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hayfield Secondary School. High school students and their families are encouraged to attend these two events to explore postsecondary educational opportunities.

Representatives from approximately 400 colleges and universities, including two-year and four-year colleges as well as military academies and business and technical schools, will be on hand at both events to talk to prospective students.

Students in Fairfax County public schools will participate in International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5, in an effort to promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion and pollution near schools.
