FCPS Debuts New Website

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has launched a new website (www.fcps.edu) that has been designed to improve navigation and make the site more user-friendly for parents, students, employees, and the community. The transition from the old to the new website occurred during the evening of October 17.

The following changes will help make navigating the site easier.

FCPS Encourages Students to Adopt 9-5-2-1-0

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

As part of its 2011-12 school year goals to encourage good nutrition and physical activity among students, Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is promoting the 9-5-2-1-0 program in October.This program promotes 9 hours of sleep, 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity, and 0 sugary drinks for elementary school-age students each day.

In conjunction with the 9-5-2-1-0 campaign, FNS is introducing students to new fruits and vegetables and purchasing locally-grown seasonal produce whenever possible to serve in schools. These activities complement the Give Me 5! Colors That Jive! nutrition message that encourages students to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables of different colors in order to get proper nutrition. FNS is also working with schools to use produce that is grown in school gardens in school menus.

FCPS Posts Graduation Rate of 91.4 Percent

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

Graduation rates released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) show that 91.4 percent of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students from the class of 2011 graduated on time.  This figure exceeds the state average of 86.6 percent by 4.8 percentage points and is up slightly from 91.2 percent for the class of 2010.

Thirty-Four FCPS Students Selected for Virginia Honors Choir

 

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

Vocal musicians from 16 Fairfax County public schools have been named to the Virginia Honors Choir for 2011. The students will perform at the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) convention November 19 in Norfolk. Thirty-four Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students were selected for the choir, and eight students were named alternates.

Students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will observe National School Lunch Week October 11-14 with a focus on" Let's Grow Healthy," a campaign to help students learn where food comes from and how it helps them grow strong and healthy.
