Take the Plunge: Join Design Army X Karla Colletto for Pool Party, Fashion Show on Friday, Aug. 22

Design Army X Karla Colletto to debut their swimwear collection - Swim At Your Own Risk - on Friday, August 22 from 7-10 p.m. at Capitol Skyline Hotel

On the heels of judging the global 61st Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France as one of two US judges in the Design category, Pum Lefebure, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Design Army, just released her first swimwear collection, Swim At Your Own Risk, in collaboration with Karla Colletto. A capsule collection for Colletto’s Cruise 2015 line and Lefebure’s first venture into fashion design, the five-piece graphic swimsuits and beachwear debuted at the Miami Swim Show on July 19th.

This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

Since ancient times, man has gazed skyward, watching the stars, planets and other celestial objects in an effort to better understand the heavens above. That tradition continues on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Riverbend Park’s Night Sky Festival.

Enjoy guided star gazing, looking through the telescope and listening to ancient stories about the constellations around the campfire. The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Jupiter is the evening’s featured planet. Riverbend Park staff will organize games and other activities throughout the evening. Hot chocolate and snacks will be available for purchase. Program cost is $5 per person call 703-222-4664 to register.

Greater Springfield Chamber Hosts Children's Book Drive

Springfield, VA – The Greater Springfield Chamber’s Community Affairs Committee will host a Children’s Book Drive February 13 through April 6. Children’s books, for readers up to grade 6, will be collected at Chamber events and at area businesses for distribution to local elementary age students this spring.

“Every child should have books they call their own,” reminds Karen Brown, coordinator of the Chamber’s Book Drive. “I know our business community is ready to help.”
