CITY OF MANASSAS ANNOUNCES NEW CITY MANAGER, JOHN A. BUDESKY

John A. Budesky of Mechanicsville, Va., Appointed New City Manager for Manassas, Va.
 

The Manassas, Va. City Council and Manassas, Va. Mayor Hal Parrish appoint John A. Budesky, of Mechanicsville, Va. as the new city manager of Manassas, Va. He was selected from 70 candidates representing 23 states as part of a nationwide search. Budesky’s first day as Manassas, Va. city manager will be Mon., Mar. 5, 2012. A Packed (Open) House for Greenspring's Newly Redesigned Medical Center

(SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA) - The Greenspring retirement community held an Open House for its on-campus Medical Center on Friday, January 27.  The Medical Center at Greenspring recently experienced a renovation and redesign, providing a more modern look and better accessibility options for the community’s senior population. 

The goal of the Greenspring Medical Center is to provide exceptional care to residents while helping them to maintain the independent lifestyle they have grown accustomed to. Approximately 93% of the nearly 2000 Greenspring residents utilize the on-campus Center, which exclusively uses electronic medical records to manage patient care.  The renovation and redesign of the Center, which originally opened in 1998, now includes updated exam rooms, new workstations, lower counters, more accessible hallways and doorways, as well as modernized interior decorations.

Fimian’s presentation was focused on the importance of start-up companies to the health of national job growth

“Uncertainty is the biggest enemy to job growth,” said Fimian, addressing the Greenspring Republican Club at their monthly meeting on January 3.  He stated that business-friendly policies are what is needed to help start-up companies get off the ground and suggested ways that Congress can help create jobs including eliminating the capital gains tax on start-up companies, extending the Bush tax cuts, approving free-trade agreements with Columbia, South Korea, and Panama, and requiring Congressional approval on regulations with costs in excess of $50 million.  Fimian also stated that he is “very seriously” considering a run for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2013.

Congressman Connolly Recognizes Achievement of West Springfield High School Dance Team

Congressman Gerry Connolly joined the members of the West Springfield High School Dance Team Wednesday morning at a joint meeting of the Springfield Rotary Club and the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce to congratulate the students’ on their dance successes. Connolly presented the students with a statement he entered into the Congressional Record recognizing the “exceptional” dance team as two-time National Dance Team Champions and as finalists on the NBC variety program America’s Got Talent.  Connolly is a strong and longtime supporter of the arts, both as a congressman and during his tenure as Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.  Among his arts-related activities is the annual Congressional Arts Competition he sponsors for Northern Virginia high school students.

Chris Perkins, Congressional Candidate for Virginia's 11th District, Visits Greenspring

Congressional candidate for Virginia’s 11th district, Chris Perkins, visited with the Greenspring Republican Club at the Springfield, Virginia retirement community on Tuesday, December 6.  Hoping to receive the 2012 Republican nomination, Perkins described himself by saying, “I’m not a politician; I’m an old soldier.”  Perkins indicated that he is a supporter of state’s rights, entitlement reform, and a balanced-budget amendment.  He also indicated that he believes that the 2012 elections will be focused around two major issues: the role of government and the character of elected officials.  Perkins addressed issues and questions raised by residents at the community including those regarding illegal immigration, life issues, budget cuts, defense spending, and stated that “our biggest threat is our struggling economy.”

The Virginia State Board of Elections 1:00 p.m. election day briefing stated that there have been some issues regarding voters going to the incorrect polling location in Fairfax County, for example in Rose Hill. According to the election day breifing, "from the calls the State of Elections is receiving, it appears voters directly affected by redistrciting mostly know their polling place has changed." If you are still unsure of your exact polling location you can use the Google Gadget at www.sbe.virginia.gov and type in your address to get the polling location as well as directions to the new polling location.
