CARMELLOS/MONZA SUPPORT BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Carmellos and Monza are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from Th., Oct. 2 to Oct. 31. Carmello’s will offer their ‘Go Pink’ dish of Lamb Meatballs with Fettuccine with 10 percent of the dish being donated to the American Cancer Society, while Monza is giving away 10 percent of all their pizza sales throughout October. (Springfield, Va.) – It was 50 years ago this September 26th that Gilligan’s Island first appeared on television.  While the show only ran for three years, it made a significant cultural impact on multiple generations.  To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show, seven residents from Greenspring retirement community in Springfield, Va. recreated an iconic Gilligan’s Island cast photo:

MANASSAS UTILITIES NOW OFFERS E-BILLING TO ITS CUSTOMERS

City of Manassas residents can now use a more convenient way of receiving and paying their utility bill online. They have the option to pay by electronic check for free or pay a nominal fee to use their credit card. As of Sept. 1, the City of Manassas had more than 800 customers that have paid bills online, and almost 500 are using e-billing, enabling electronic notifications of due dates. Customers choosing to pay their bills by mail or in-person, can continue to do so.

For those customers who register for e-billing now through Nov. 30, they will be automatically entered for a raffle to win an Ipod Nano.

Officers shoot man after locking down school, church


SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Officers in Virginia locked down a school and church when responding to a report of an armed suicidal man on Monday.

Officers were called to the 7000 block of Old Keene Mill Road at about 1:15 p.m. where a suicidal man was armed near the Springfield United Methodist Church, police said.

Officer contained the area, locking down the Garfield Elementary school and the church itself.

Officers encountered the man prior to the arrival of SWAT officers and negotiators, resulting in the officer-related shooting, police said.

The man is a serious but stable condition, police said.

A capsule collection for Colletto’s Cruise 2015 line and Lefebure’s first venture into fashion design, the five-piece graphic swimsuits and beachwear debuted at the Miami Swim Show on July 19th.

Missing 62-year-old Springfield woman found dead


FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA 9) --Fairfax County Police said a reported missing 62-year-old woman from Springfield was found dead Saturday morning in Pohick Stream Valley Park. Police are now investigating her death.

According to police, Mary Gibson, of the 7000 block of Galgate Drive in Springfield, went to walk her dog around 4 p.m. Friday.

Police said, she did not return home after that.

Authorities searched the area and found her body around 9:20 a.m. Saturday, in a wooded area, in Pohick Stream Valley Park. Police said, her body was found about one-half mile away from her home.

Police said, they do not think foul play is involved in her death.

According to authorities, the dog was found right next to her, alive.

The cause and manner of her death is now being investigated.

MANASSAS UTILITIES’ NEW LOAD MANAGEMENT DEVICES SAVE ON USAGE and  CUSTOMERS EARN UTILITY CREDITS

The City of Manassas Utilities are using new load management devices which will enable them to decrease usage demand during high peak periods and help lower utility rates, while customers can get a one-time $25 utility credit for each load management installed on their electric hot water heater, heat pump and air conditioner. In addition, the hot water heater load management devices earns an annual $2 credit on utility bills, while air conditioning devices get $9 credit per month from July through October, and $3 per month credit for electric heat pumps from November through June.  For more information, go to www.manassascity.org or call 703-257-8219.
