Suspect wanted for armed robbery at Springfield store


The robbery happened at 7104 Brookfield Plaza at the Shri Krishna Grocery store around 8 p.m., according to Fairfax County police. The suspect went into the store, pulled out a gun and demanded money. He was not given any money. Instead the suspect stole items from the store. Nobody was injured in the robbery, authorities said. 

Police described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 25 to 30 years of age. He was about 6 feet tall and about 185 pounds. He had a goatee and was wearing a gray jacket and blue jeans, police added.

Man killed after being hit by car in Springfield


SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man is dead after he was hit by a car in Springfield, Monday night, Virginia State Police said.

The crash happened around 8:29 p.m. when a 2012 Toyota Corolla was going south on I-95 in the left lane. The man was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and crossing the travel lane, police said.

Despite the driver's attempts he could not stop the Toyota in time and was not able to switch lanes. The man was fatally struck at the scene.

Police said the man's remains were taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner for positive ID, examination and an autopsy. The victim has not been identified yet.

The driver involved in the crash, a 21-year-old Fredericksburg man was taken to the Fairfax Inova Hospital for minor injuries. He will not be charged in connection with the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
