METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS ‘SINGING the ‘BLUES’ for AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH

In support of Autism Awareness Month, Metropolitan School of the Arts is asking all of its studio students to ‘go blue’ now through April 30.  Students who wear blue during class, Monday through Friday in April, Metropolitan School of the Arts will donate $1 for each student that wears blue, per day. Metropolitan School of the Arts offers pre-professional dance, theatre, musical and vocal studio classes for youth and teens, as well as adult dance and fitness classes, including Metro Barre, yoga and Pilates.

4 pets die in Springfield fire


SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was taken to the hospital and four family pets died after a fire at a house in Springfield on Thursday morning.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials say firefighters arrived at the scene in the 6900 block of Sydenstricker Road at approximately 8:50 a.m. They were able to
extinguish the fire in approximately 20 minutes.

The three smoke alarms in the home did not work, according to officials.

One man was transported to Springfield Healthplex for smoke inhalation, according to officials.

Officials say some of the family's pets were killed in the fire. Four pets, one dog and three cats, died.

Six occupants have been displaced due to the fire and the Red Cross is helping them, say officials.

Man accused of trying to use chat rooms for sex with girls


SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Police say a Springfield man was arrested for coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

According to police, 50-year-old Kenneth A. Brauckman was arrested after an investigation by detectives from the Child Exploitation Unit and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Brauckmann is accused of using online chat rooms to attempt to solicit and entice young girls for sex.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who might have information regarding this case.
