MANASSAS CITY RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR 100 YEARS OF SERVICE

Manassas City Utilities received the Century Award from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for its 100-year anniversary. Established in 1987, the APPA Century Award is given each year to public power utilities that have served their customers and community for 100 years.  For details, go to www.manassascity.org or call 703-257-8276.

To commemorate the milestone, Manassas City Utilities hosted a 100-year anniversary event in October, 2013 that was attended by more than 600 people. At the event, they ceremoniously buried a time capsule containing memorable utility items from the past century and also raised more than $3,000 to donate to the American Cancer Society.

METROPOLITAN SCHOOL OF THE ARTS RAISES $8,000 for BLACK BOX THEATRE PROJECT in ALEXANDRIA, VA.

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) raised $8,000 at their second Annual Benefit Concert to go toward construction of their Black  Box Theatre project in Alexandria, Va. Metropolitan Youth Ballet, Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble and iMpulse Jazz Ensemble performed at the concert at the George Washington National Memorial in Alexandria, Va., hosted by FOX 5’s anchor, Annie Yu.

Va. man wanted for sexual battery of a juvenile


SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County police need your help locating a 48-year-old man who they say is wanted for sexual battery of a juvenile.

Police say Ricardo Delgado-Tobar of Abilene Street fled from the area after they contacted him during an investigation.

Delgado-Tobar could still be in the area or outside of the U.S.

Police say an investigation began after a Fairfax County high school guidance counselor reported that a 15-year-girl had shared information about being sexually assaulted by the suspect on numerous occasions. We're told the victim and the suspect know each other.

Fairfax County Police are working in conjunction with the United States Marshall's Fugitive Task Force on this case.

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- Prince William County police have arrested a woman who they say bit another woman's leg and pushed a police officer.

Bonnie Lu Jackson, 42, of Manassas, has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, assault & battery on a LEO, and domestic assault & battery.

On April 19 at 12:51 a.m., officers responded to the 7300 block of Castle Road to investigate a domestic disturbance. The victim, a 44-year-old woman, reported that she and Jackson were involved in a verbal altercation that had escalated, according to police.

Police say that Jackson assaulted the victim and bit her leg. At some time during the altercation, Jackson grabbed a knife and charged towards the victim. Another person was able to separate the two women.

Guardians of Rescue Begins Sting Investigations into Hazardous Internet Pet Sales

As the world embraces the age of technology, everything is available online----including the sale of pets. Guardians of Rescue, a nationwide animal rescue organization, has stepped up to protect these poor animals from the cruelty of being bought and sold via the Internet. Guardians of Rescue is working with law enforcement in various states to try to reduce the amount of harm inflicted on these innocent dogs.

“Getting a new pet is always a big decision, and buying a dog you haven’t met in person is not smart,” says Dori Scofield, vice-president of Guardians of Rescue, an organization whose mission is to protect the well-being of all animals. “If you buy a dog through the Internet, you risk supporting puppy mill cruelty and being scammed out of your money. The Internet is also used by criminals to buy and sell fighting dogs, using certain understood language.”
