FCPS Students Write Winning Plays in Arena Stage 10-Minute Play Competition

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

Three Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students are among eight winners of the 2011-12 Student Playwrights Project 10-Minute Play Competition, sponsored by Arena Stage.

Winning FCPS students include:

·        Sahana Ramani of Carson Middle School, Chocolate Bars and a New Life.·        Sarah Chaikind of McLean High School, Quarantine.·        Zoe Davidson of McLean High School, Purgatory or the Counselor’s Waiting Room. The winning playwrights will receive playwriting master classes and participate in further script development while working with a professional director and dramaturg from Arena Stage. Their plays will be performed by professional actors on Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 10, at 3 and 7 p.m.The following FCPS students earned an honorable mention: ·        Nova Zhang of Carson Middle School, T.I.R.E.D.M.O.M.·        Betsy Ryan of Falls Church High School, Feminine Willies.·        Sam Cornbrooks of Key Middle School, Who Are You Becoming.·        Damian Leverett of McLean High School, Standing Up.·        Kyrin Jones of Thoreau Middle School, Chronicles of the Chronically Ill.·        Sabina Whitcomb of Thoreau Middle School, Cardboard Love. Plays that earned an honorable mention will receive a professional reading at Arena Stage. High school honorable mention plays will be read on Monday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m. and middle school honorable mention plays will be read on Tuesday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m.  Nearly 800 plays were submitted from students in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
