Man arrested for DUI after hitting pedestrian in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- A woman was struck and killed while waiting on the bus in Springfield after police say a drunk driver lost control and hit her Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Senait Mamo, 47, of Springfield, Va. Police say she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Corey English, 22, of Fredericksburg, Va. was charged with with driving while intoxicated, police said.

The accident happened on Old Keene Mill Road near Greeley Boulevard when police say English lost control of the car and struck Mamo. The car continued up a small embankment, veered back onto the roadway, crossed the median and struck another car in the westbound lanes, police said.

English and two other passengers were taken to a local hospital. Police say a 43-year-old woman was the driver of the other car and she was also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say additional charges are pending.
