Drop in on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Sully Historic Site, 3650 Historic Sully Way in Chantilly, for Sully’s Annual Antique Car Show. From 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. you’ll see more than 400 antique and classic cars, and you can even buy the car of your dreams at the Car Corral. The car show is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children. The fee includes a tour of the house built by Richard Bland Lee, Northern Virginia’s first representative to Congress. It’s not every day that you hear of a heartwarming story between a postman and a dog, but this one is sure to bring tears to your eyes, especially if you are fortunate enough to meet this destined pair. Piper, a short but sturdy black and white pit bull type dog came to our New York Avenue Shelter in January of this year after being found by a responsive DC resident. She spent some time in the shelter looking for her new family, overlooked as many black and white pit bulls are in shelters. But that would change, after I quickly fell in love with her charm and she was transferred into our foster care program.

Sheriff’s Office Announces Safety Seat Saturday

The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a new program called “Safety Seat Saturday.” In an effort to better serve the needs of the community, the Sheriff’s Office will be holding a child safety seat installation and inspection on one Saturday each month.  The first “Safety Seat Saturday” event is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fairfax County Public Safety Center – Public Parking Garage located at 10550 Page Avenue in Fairfax.  This service is free and no appointment is necessary. Just bring your vehicle and safety seat. If your kid (s) is available, bring him or her too.

As pools open Memorial Day weekend throughout the region, the Fairfax County Park Authority recognizes that May is National Water Safety Month and encourages everyone to be safe!

Are you and your children water safe? Did you know that drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death for children? In support of National Water Safety Awareness Month the Park Authority encourages everyone to follow some basic water safety tips that could save a life!

Each year there are nearly 3,500 deaths due to drowning in the United States alone. Drowning is preventable! Join us in our effort to stop drowning from happening.
