Distinguished guest judges selected best heart healthy meal in Chefs Challenge!

(Springfield, Va.) - On Wednesday, February 19, Greenspring retirement community and Inova Heart & Vascular Institute partnered to recognize American Heart Month.  The community hosted a Heart Healthy Chefs Challenge in which Greenspring’s own culinary chefs prepared heart healthy dishes in front of a live audience.  Chef Willie Wanzer and Chef Nik Chanthavisouk, Chef de Cuisine’s at Greenspring, were awarded “Best Heart Healthy Meal” by a panel of distinguished judges.

In honor of National Heart Month, Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of  Lorton and Alexandria, Va. is featuring their “Dance Your Heart Out” campaign, offering unlimited adult dance and mind/body classes throughout February for a special price of $110, including their newest class, Hot Hula. Tim Federle, Broadway Performer and Author Visits Metropolitan School of the Arts in Alexandria

Tim Federle is best known for working on the choreography for Broadway’s Billy Elliott, performing in Broadway’s Little Mermaid, and he most recently wrote Amazon’s Best Book of Jan. 2014, Five, Six, Seven, Nate. Federle is coming to Northern Virginia, teaching “Tips and Tricks to Nail a Broadway Dance Audition” at MSA’s Alexandria studio at 5775 Barclay Drive on Wed., Feb. 5 for middle and high school students from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Workshops are open for advanced dance, theatre and music students. HOLIDAY CUPCAKE DECORATING CLASSES at OCCASIONALLY CAKE

Now through Dec. 31, 2013, Occasionally Cake at 207 King St. in Old Town Alexandria, Va. is hosting cupcake decorating classes on Tuesdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays, as scheduled and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Each class is two hours and instructors teach four different cupcake designs for take-home cupcakes, featuring holiday designs. Class is $60 per person. Classes will teach Christmas tree, snowflake, Santa and reindeer cupcake designs. Class space is limited and based on availability. A 50 percent deposit is required upon making a reservation. Cupcake classes will teach piping, chocolate molds, as well as butter cream and fondant techniques.

Kick off New Year’s Eve at Monza of Old Town Manassas, Va. on Tues., Dec. 31 at 10:15 p.m. with the James Dean or Wayne Newton New Year’s Eve Package. The James Dean Package is $10 per person made before Dec. 31 and $15 for reservations made on Dec. 31, which includes party favors, midnight toast, music with disc jockey and a closing cup of Monza’ chicken noodle soup. While the Wayne Newton Package is $36 per person (with a four person minimum) and includes a reserved table, party favors, music with disc jockey, some beverages and a closing cup of Monza chicken noodle soup. Monza’s pizza menu will available for dining with both packages. At 9:30 p.m., Carmello’s will feature an All Inclusive Five-Course New Year’s Dinner with live band, party favors, midnight toast and beverages.
