New Credit Rules One Year Later: What Effect has it had?

One year after new credit card regulations were enacted to stop some questionable billing practices and where are we?

  • Over the limit penalty charges have been dramatically decreased. Previously, card holders could be hit with over the limit charges that effectively kept them over the limit. Now that has been curtailed enough where the monthly payment can be applied to the actual balance owed.

  • Before the new rules, card issuers would routinely approve transactions that would cause cardholders to exceed their limits resulting in the dreaded over the limit fees. Now customers cannot be penalized for going over their limits unless they say they want such transactions to go through.

Bridging the Generation Gap in Egypt and the American Workplace

The historical transfer of power in Egypt has seen the departure of an entrenched 82-year-old dictator and a movement toward a democratically elected government where young Egyptians will have a major voice in politics and policies of the future.  A major key to a successful transition that will allow Egypt to move forward as a stable, innovative nation lies in respect and understanding between generations.

The same is true with American businesses.

Innovation is the intersection of the past and present that leads to the future.  That’s why it is so important that business leaders publicly acknowledge the contribution of each generation, applaud the unique strengths brought to the table by workers of different ages, and encourage everyone to share their viewpoints as a way to make a strong team even stronger.

Tips for Dealing with Debt after the Holidays

1.) Change your budget

Now that the holidays are over and you are facing your holiday bills you may want to re-evaluate your budget to see where you can cut corners to apply more money to your debt. This may mean eating out less and going out to the movies less often.

2.) Don’t keep using your credit cards

As you pay off your credit cards, put them away and keep them out of your wallet. Do not use your cards for frivolous expenses, no matter how small they may seem. These small purchases can add up fast! Don’t fall into the trap of reusing your cards or you could get stuck in a cycle of working to pay them off after using them unnecessarily.

3.) Pay More than the Minimum

When you get the credit card bill, don’t just pay the minimum. Pay as much as you can toward the balance. The more you pay at once, the more interest your knocking out and avoiding.
