The Workhouse Arts Center: From Prision to Art Center

This Wednesday, August 18, the Workhouse Arts Center is hosting a free exhibit called “Prison to Art Center: 100 Years at the Workhouse Exhibit.” The exhibit will run from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Workhouse Arts Center Gallery Building on the 2nd floor. The building is located at 9601 Ox Road in Lorton, VA.

Come learn about the transition from a correctional facility to a thriving art community. The Workhouse was established by the Lorton Arts Foundation and guests will be able to learn about the rich past and milestones that lead to the current arts center. For more information about the exhibit you can call 703-584-2900.

If you miss the exhibit on Wednesday, there’s more. The Workhouse is inviting the public to join the opening reception on Sunday, August 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The community is also invited to join the Centennial Celebration of the Workhouse on September 4. This celebration will include a campus-wide open house, as well as musical performances by the “Classical WETA Players Brass Quintet” and “Church ‘Go-Go’ Brown.”
