Capital One credit card charge-offs increase

Local credit giant Capital One (based in McLean, VA) has stated that its rate of uncollectible credit card balances increased in the third quarter. Initially, it seemed that consumers were showing progress in paying credit card bills, but with the rate of unemployment continuing to climb, consumers are concentrating on major bill payments such as mortgage and automobile payments.

Charge offs for Capital One have increased from $366.8 million to 368 million continuing to show that consumers are still under stress and enduring financial hardships. It has been noted that while consumers are attempting to make payments on their credit card debt, they are still delinquent in their payments.

It has been found that consumers are using credit cards for basic needs such as groceries, gas and prescription drug purchases. In addition, most consumers are carrying at least $10,000 in credit card debt and have at least 5 credit cards.

Mother Dies Saving Children in Blaze

LORTON, Va. (WUSA) -- "I just lost my son, and now my grandbabies are gone," said Grace Hamilton, the grandmother of the two children who died in a house fire Wednesday. She believes the fire must have started by a candle left unattended.

"I watched them pull out my grandson," said Dwayne Hamilton, Grace's husband. He broke down in tears, and he thought about his grandsons who died: three-year-old Alfonso and five year old Solomon. Their mother, 24 year old Eileen "Allie" Anderson.

Fairfax Fire Spokesperson Dan Schmidt says autopsies revealed all three victims died from smoke inhalation. The investigators are still working on determining the cause of the fire.

Last Section of Fairfax Co. Parkway Set to Open in Hopes of Easing Morning and Afternoon Traffic

The final extension of one of the D.C. Metropolitan area’s busiest commuter route is almost complete; and it has the potential to improve before and after work travel for everyone.

The last 1.9 miles of the Fairfax County Parkway will allow for a quicker and easier trip from Fort Belvoir and Interstate 95 to Herndon.

The northbound lanes will open after Friday night's rush hour. Southbound lanes will open next Tuesday.

Part of the road was dedicated as the "Trooper Charles Mark Cosslett Memorial Highway;” named after state trooper Charles Mark Cosslett who died in 2002 when a tow-truck struck his motorcycle on Interstate 95 southbound near Springfield.
