Annual Emergency Drill

The following was sent to us by Virginia Railway Express:

It’s that time of year again.  Fall?  No.  Halloween?  No.  It’s time for our annual emergency drill.  Each year in the fall we simulate some sort of train disaster.  During the simulated disaster, local first responders test their skills in responding to a situation on a train.  This year’s drill will take place in Springfield, VA.  As we do every year, we are looking for volunteers to be victims of this simulated train disaster.  The more, the merrier.  The drill will be held on Saturday, November 13.  Volunteer victims need to arrive by 6:30am and should be done by noon.

Greater Springfield Chamber Supports ABC Privatization

From the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce:

Springfield, Virginia – October 12, 2010 – The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce has announced its endorsement of Governor Bob McDonnell’s proposal to privatize ABC stores in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Chamber’s Board voted to support privatization of Virginia’s ABC stores because it is a win for free enterprise.  Furthermore, under the Governor’s proposal ABC privatization is a significant one-time source of income for a transportation infrastructure bank and is a balanced, net-neutral result for the Commonwealth and residents.

“Bottom line, Virginia should be in the business of regulating alcohol, not selling it,” reminds Dan La May, President of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.  “Allowing free enterprise to flourish is the key to economic recovery.”
